Virtues parenting program

26 Jun, 2016

Being a parent is one of the most complex and important roles on the planet.

Parents are a child’s first and most important educators, yet they receive little or no training in what to do or how to do it. Unfortunately, children don’t come with instruction manuals.

Teaching virtues to children is a way of bringing out the best in every child. The Virtues Parenting Program is a six week course not only for just parents, but also teachers and anyone else who has a responsibility for children.

It aims to build a community in which every adult looking after children has the will and skill to teach respect, foster kindness and model virtues such as caring, compassion, courage, forgiveness, honesty, love, self-discipline, thankfulness and truthfulness - just to name a few.

Relationships Education Manager Marion Dunn said the purpose of teaching The Virtues is to develop a culture of character where respect, patience, self-discipline, tolerance and joy are among the virtues children master.

“The Virtues Strategies can easily be integrated into how parents interact with their children in the home, when disciplining them and supporting socialisation,” she said.

“It is a positive, holistic program which has been used in many cultures and countries throughout the world to bring out the best in our children.”
