Bunbury celebrates Neighbour Day

10 Apr, 2017

Relationships Australia and the Family Relationships Centre (FRC) in Bunbury held an early joint celebration for Neighbour Day on Wednesday 22 March - a date picked to ensure everyone from the centres could attend.

Two morning teas and sing-a-long sessions were held at Wattle Hill Aged Care and Ocean Star Aged Care. Gary Palfrey-Jones from the FRC Bunbury entertained the residents with a half hour ukulele session, which was accompanied with a singalong.

Community Development Officer Christine said it was a wonderful day and throughoughly worthwhile.

"The residents really enjoyed themselves with a bit of toe tapping and hand clapping, along with small windows of singing," she said.

"Some were keen to tell us about musical instruments that they had played in earlier years.

"The FRC and RA staff also enjoyed themselves immensely seeing the brightness it brought to the elderly residents' day."

Both sessions helped created new friendships and social connections for Bunbury residents, to help reduce social isolation.
