Leederville street party

02 Mar, 2015

Join us for a free street party in the heart of Leederville on Neighbour Day. Why not invite your neighbour to come along to help celebrate Australia’s annual celebration of community?

The event will be hosted by Befriend, in conjunction with the City of Vincent, on the vibrant Oxford Street reserve.

Listen to some live music from band Summer Collision, browse at the delicious food stalls from local vendors and participate in the variety of street games that will be featured at the event. Of course, it just wouldn't be a street party without also having a homemade lemonade stand. There'll even be a petting zoo for all the animal lovers out there.

Director of Befriend Nick Maisey encouraged community members to join these organisations in celebrating their vision of an inclusive, connected world.

Mr Maisey said Neighbour Day was a great excuse to get to know the people around us, through fun, social gatherings that bring people together people from diverse backgrounds.

“The seemingly simple connections formed between people at Neighbour Day events can break down some of the barriers that keep people isolated and marginalised, and be part of a positive change movement towards inclusive, connected communities,” he said.

“It's the little things that matter - a simple smile, a handshake and a kind word can go a long way. Take the initiative.”

The event will run from 3.30-6.30pm, so pop down for some fun before dinner, a mid-afternoon snack and some great company.

Access Without Barriers have been extremely generous and will be installing a temporary ramp on the day to increase the accessibility to all of the action.

When: Sunday March 29
Time: 3.30pm – 6.30pm
Where: Oxford Reserve, Leederville
