What is Family Dispute Resolution (FDR)?

FDR aims to help separating couples reach agreements that are in the best interests of their children. This may be an alternative to going to Family Court.

What is Case Worker Assisted Culturally Appropriate Family Dispute Resolution (CWA-FDR)?

CWA-FDR is a supportive Culturally Appropriate Family Dispute Resolution (mediation) process offered to families from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) backgrounds or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, who are experiencing additional challenges, which can include Family and Domestic Violence

FDR sessions are managed by an independent and specially trained Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner or mediator

Who is CWA-FDR for?

• CaLD parents (at least one parent) who have separated or are in the process of separating
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents (at least one parent) who have separated or are in the process of separating
• There are children under the age of 18 years
• Where there has been a history of Family and Domestic Violence
• This service also extends to Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander grandparents and family who wish to reconnect with children.

At the Perth Family Relationship Centre located at Level 8, 150 St Georges Terrace, Perth WA 6000.

What support will I receive?

• Caseworker Support: Your caseworker will meet with you and provide you with culturally sensitive support throughout the process.
• Information:  You will be provided with information on the FDR process, rights of children and parents' responsibilities.
• Referrals: You can be linked into appropriate services such as community support, counselling and legal advice
• Individual and Joint sessions: Sessions with a FDR practitioner to gather information and develop a parenting plan.
• Interpreter(s): Will be used as required to ensure all clients understand the process and what is being discussed.
